Meet Haley...
Hi, my name is Haley and I am 12 years old and I have had diabetes since I was 5 years old. I have had the insulin pump for 5 years. The pump makes me feel like a normal kid. I love it because now I don’t have to take shots as often. I have one brother and 3 sisters. My sister, my dad and I all have Type 1 diabetes and everyone wears the pump. I like to play guitar and the flute and I like to do Sodoku puzzles in my free time. I like to crochet also. My dog’s name is Jake and my cat’s name is Abigail. My friends have no problem with me having diabetes because most of the time they forget. At first, I was afraid that if I told them, they wouldn’t want to be friends with me because I was different. But now I know that I’m not much different than them. I’m a girl with diabetes and this is my story.
Meet Morgan...
Hi, my name is Morgan Prince I am a freshman at Illiana (Lansing, IL) and I am almost 15 years old. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 6th grade right before my birthday. I started with the insulin pump when i was in 7th grade. When I got my pump, the abc 7 news came and interviewed me on it..so I was on the news talking about my pump. One thing i love about the pump is not having to take shots every day. I have 2 sisters, both redheads like myself. No one else in my family has type 1 diabetes, not even any of my cousins, aunts, uncles, or grandparents. Sports are what take up most of my time. This year in school, I have played volleyball, basketball, and I am now playing soccer. I either have practice or games for them everyday, but I still have time to miraculously squeeze things in. I try to do the best I can in everything...especially with my grades in school. So far this year I have gotten pretty much all straight A's on my report card. I also love to sing, whether it's singing in the choir I'm in at school, or with my friends, or in the shower. I love to hang out with my friends! Most of them don't care at all that I'm a little different then they are..that i have diabetes. They always ask questions about diabetes, and always make sure i'm doing ok. I want to especially thank my friends and my family for helping me through this bumpy path in my life!
